A Town in the KZN Midlands
Tucked among the rolling green hills and misty mornings of the Midlands in KwaZulu-Natal, Waddletown Marsh is a small South African town built around the wetland that gives it its name. Where the streams slow and the bulrushes gather, a community grew up along the water’s edge.
To this day the marsh remains the beating heart of the town — part highway, part marketplace, part gossip-shop — and the reason every resident keeps a good pair of webbed feet.
A Short History
From the reeds upThe Founding
Settled by the Water
The first families settled where the Midlands streams pooled into a broad, reedy marsh, drawn by still water, fat snails, and the finest mud in the province.
Growing Up
A Town Takes Shape
Boardwalks were laid, the Old Willow became the meeting place, and in time the town earned its own voice — The Waddletown Gazette.
Today
Marsh & Meadow
Now a proud little Midlands town, Waddletown Marsh keeps its slow, watery charm — equal parts mud, mist, and marvellous community spirit.
